Scan pages into a PDF on the Mac

Press C (or 6) for Scan. Hold a page under your iPhone with Continuity Camera, use Scan Documents on iPhone…, or drop photos. Edges are found, pages turned upright and shadows removed. Colour and Greyscale are free for up to 20 pages; Black and white, Whiteboard, Receipt, longer scans and size presets are Pro.

Press C (or 6) for Scan.

Add pages

  • Continuity Camera: hold a page under your iPhone. Press Space or Return to capture, or turn on Capture when steady. Esc stops the camera.
  • Scan Documents on iPhone…: pages come back already squared.
  • Camera on this Mac, a Document scanner (feeder or flatbed), Choose from Photos… or Choose image files… (JPEG, PNG, HEIC, TIFF, PDF). Import a folder of images… is Pro.

Clean up

Each page has Find page edges, Turn pages upright and Remove shadows, with Contrast and Edges sliders, Find edges again and Whole photo. The palette rotates, retakes and deletes pages; drag to reorder.

Filters: Colour and Greyscale are free. Black and white, Whiteboard and Receipt are Pro.

Save

Save scan asks for a name and offers Recognise text, so the PDF is searchable (free here). Size: Full is free; Email, Archive and Print presets are Pro. Choose Save as PDF…, or add the pages to the open document.

Free scans hold up to 20 pages. You can preview more, but without Pro the scan saves its first 20 pages, in Greyscale, at full size.
