Edit text and images in place

Press T (or 3) for Edit, a Pro tool. Click text to change it, or an image to replace, crop, rotate or delete it; the ribbon has font, size, bold, italic, alignment and line spacing. A missing font gets a Find online button, and fonts are embedded as a subset when you save.

Edit is a Pro tool (on during the seven-day trial).

Start editing

Press T (or 3). A ribbon replaces the palette, with the groups Edit, Font, Paragraph, Undo and Image. The Edit group has Text, Image, Add text, Add image, Crop and Redact.

Text

Click into a line and type. The ribbon sets the font family and size, Bold (⌘B), Italic (⌘I), Underline (⌘U), strikethrough and colour, alignment (⇧⌘L, ⇧⌘E, ⇧⌘R, ⇧⌘J) and line spacing.

The font picker lists the fonts In this document, On this Mac, Added fonts and Recent. Add font file… takes a .ttf or .otf and embeds it when you save.

If the document uses a font your Mac does not have, a card says it isn’t installed and offers Find … online, which opens your browser. The app itself sends nothing.

Images

Select an image to Replace…, rotate, flip, change its opacity or Delete it. Details shows its size and has Extract… to save the original.

Saving

When you save, Better PDF asks whether to Replace original or Save a copy…. File › Check Fonts… and Embed All Fonts… make sure the result looks the same everywhere.

A signed document says This document is signed. Editing it would invalidate the signatures, so Better PDF offers Edit a copy.
