The Mac app

Better PDF opens, reads, fills, recognises and signs documents on your Mac. It does not upload documents, their names or their contents anywhere. Recognising scanned pages uses Apple Vision on your Mac.

There is no account and no sign-in. Better PDF has no analytics, no telemetry and no crash upload.

The only two network calls

1. The update check (direct download only). Once a day Better PDF asks betterpdf.co/appcast.xml whether there is a new version. The request carries no system profile. Turn it off in Settings › General. The Mac App Store edition has no update check of its own; the App Store handles updates.
2. RFC 3161 time-stamps, when you sign. They are off until you turn them on in Settings › Signing. When they are on, Better PDF sends only a hash of the signature to the time-stamp server shown there, never the document.

When you choose "Find online" for a missing font, Better PDF opens your web browser; the app itself sends nothing.

Better PDF for iPhone and iPad

The iPhone and iPad app reads, fills, signs and organises PDFs, and Lens scans paper with the camera. The camera is used only while you scan, and only when you allow it in the permission prompt; photos and scans are processed on your device and never uploaded. Recognising text in a scan uses Apple Vision on the device.

The iPhone app makes no network calls of its own: no update check, no time-stamps, no analytics, no crash upload and no account. Documents stay in the app's own storage on your device, and in your iCloud backup if you back up your device, until you share them yourself. Signatures you draw or import stay on the device too.

Version 1.0 is free and has no purchase. If a Pro purchase is added later, Apple handles it and we do not receive your payment details.

Diagnostics, by hand

On the Mac, Help › Diagnostics… builds a zip you can read before you save it: a summary, the app's own log from the last seven days, recent crash reports (direct download only), the token driver status and your preferences with PINs, serials and token details removed. Paths in your home folder, volume names and e-mail addresses are scrubbed, and no document names or contents are included. Nothing is sent on its own; you choose whether to send the zip to us.

Signing and your PIN

On the Mac, certificates, smart cards and tokens stay where they are: in your keychain or on the token. If you ask Better PDF to remember a token PIN, it is kept in your Mac's Keychain behind Touch ID, and you can forget it in Settings.

Purchases

On the Mac App Store, Apple handles the purchase and Family Sharing; we do not receive your payment details. For the direct download, Pro is a licence key for up to three Macs that you can deactivate at any time.

This website

betterpdf.co has no analytics, no trackers, no cookies and no third-party scripts or fonts. The hosting service receives the requests needed to serve each page.
